Biggest Beauty Myths Debunked

There are always rumours, myths and old-wives tales circulating and beauty definitely has its fair share of them! Passed down from generation to generation they somehow end up lauded as definitive fact when the truth can be far removed from it! Maybe you put on your mascara a certain way because of what you’ve been told, or routinely perform some other elaborate beauty trick. Whatever it is, we’re here to make things clear though by debunking some of the most common beauty myths!

The Myth:

You need to pump your mascara wand in and out of the tube to ensure it is fully covered.

The Truth:

Basically, don’t ever do this! Unless you want to have to replace your mascara far more regularly than you have to (FYI it should be every 3 months MAX due to germs and stuff), this is not going to help make your coverage of the product any better. In fact, it is going to dry out your mascara more rapidly as well as forcing more germs into the tube. We’re not really sure where this notion has sprung from, but it’s high time you stopped doing it.

The Myth:

Putting Vaseline on your lashes will help them grow longer

The Truth:

In a word, no. Putting Vaseline on your lashes is unfortunately not going to suddenly cause them to spurt an extra few millimetres. That doesn’t mean you should give up on the idea totally though; if you put Vaseline on your lashes nightly then you are conditioning them which means they’ll remain strong, shiny, healthy and much less likely to fall out and break. So although you’re lashes won’t actually grow thanks to the Vaseline, they will look more lustrous and full. Use a clean mascara wand to apply it nightly and see if you start to notice a difference.

The Myth:

You shouldn’t wear make-up every day

The Truth:

Unless you’re wearing heavy Ru Paul worthy make-up on a daily basis, then you shouldn’t take any notice of this since it won’t make your skin worse than without. The actual problem is failing to wash the makeup off properly each day which is what leads to clogged pores and of course those dreaded break-outs. Make sure you incorporate a good cleansing routine into your day to keep your skin in tip top condition.

The Myth:

Shaving hair makes it grow back thicker

The Truth:

This is one of the most prevailing beauty myths out there, and we’re happy to say that it’s simply not true! Although the shorn hair may feel coarser, it’s simply because it’s shorter and has had the end cut off, so don’t abandon your razor!

There are a whole host of beauty myths out there, so it’s a good idea to take any beauty advice with a pinch of salt.
